Start of Digipak

This is the very start of my digipak, all I've done is find a template and look through the images and select a couple of ones which I liked and this is where I'm at now.

Starting of Animatics

Today I started to create the animatics from our storyboard, so the first thing I did was get a camera so that I could take individual shots of each frame. I tried to make sure that all shots of the storyboard were similar size and they were taken from the same hight.

After taking all the shots I uploaded them onto the mac where I put them into Final Cut Pro with the song that we are using. After putting all the images in the correct order or as close to the music video as possible, I then had to crop and drag all the shots so that they were all centre.

The animatics should show the way our music video should turn out.

3rd Storyboard

These are my groups finished storyboards, from this now I will start to create the animatics. We spent more time on these ones, when filming it will be much easier for us as these shots are now more detailed.

Alt-J Music video analysis

Every Other Freckle- Alt-J

This song has two different videos, with only one change which is from a boy to a girl throughout the video.
The video starts by showing what I believe to be a hint about evolution, showing pictures of cells and tiny creatures then the environment, seeds growing and trees blowing, a shot then appears of either the man or woman depending on which video you are watching.
The next shot uses one of Goodwin's theories by showing the image of a cat jumping on the beanbag the same time that the lyric is actually said.

The next lyric says turning you inside out like a crisp packet to which the next shot is crisp packets blowing around underneath a tree.

The beat of the song then changes and so does the music video as the next shot is shot of a caveman running in slow motion however this also shows a relationship between the visuals and the music and also carries on hinting about the evolution as the image is of a caveman.
As the video carries on there is more lyrics related to the visuals about cats and just different wild animals and it then cuts to a woman running with an axe and then her with apples which are dropping out of her hands.

This video further supports Goodwin's theory as the women is fully naked within the video creating a sense of voyeurism throughout. Even with a close up to her mouth where she licks her lips.
This video is pretty basic with just lots of shots of wildlife and  and the sense of evolution, no actual sense of a narrative unless you look further into the music video itself, from what I can tell I think that there is two different videos to represent Adam and Eve and basically a fight between whether to believe in the Evolution or the story of Adam and Eve.

Typography of the album title

After deciding the font for the artist we still had to choose one for the name of the album, the group felt that the font needed to be simple and stand out, however just not as much as the artists font for her name as in most albums the artist name is bigger then the album name. This is the record company using the name of the artist as a brand which is great way to get the artist recognised.

We started by looking at lots of different fonts using the website DaFont, this helped us to preview what the album title would look like. We selected 7 so that we could do a survey, after asking people to fill out the survey we found that it was between two fonts that everyone liked. Personally I preferred Futurist fixed-width where as the others in my group wanted to use the other font which was liked by other people.
I wanted to use this font as I felt the spacing between each letter gave the album title something different which the others fonts did not. After a discussion we agreed that we could use different fonts for our own individual digipak.

1st Photo shoot using Poppy

For this shoot we used the gallery because we thought the natural white background would work so well with the feel of Poppy as a pop artist and give her a feeling of innocence while taking pictures of her. Most of these images are all in a similar style which is why we might need to do a different shoot to get a contrasting style to the one she is portraying in this shoot. This is the first photo shoot in which we used poppy in. From this shoot we was able to get lots of shots and these are just some examples of the best ones we managed to get, I feel these shots are very nice and especially like the contrasting black against the white background.
The equipment we used was one cannon D500, a studio light and obviously the costume and make up used. Another reason why we might need to do another shoot is because of her clothing and make up Poppy looks a little bit to much like indie pop which away from the feel that we want.

Developed Pitch after feedback

This is our developed power point for the pitch after we had received the feedback from the first presentation, we have added our mood board and storyboard as well as images of both actors we are going to use in our video this is because our audience didn't really get what the artist really looked like, so we put pictures of Poppy who our artist is on the pitch.

David Fincher

David Fincher
David Fincher is an american based director and producer who has won many wards for producing and directing both music videos and films. His early career was mainly working and directing music videos from there he then went on to produce and direct many award winning films such as Gone Girl (2014), The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008) and The Social Network (2010).

However earlier in his career and also recently Fincher has directed successful music videos, Fincher has won two Grammy Awards for Best Music Video, for his work in "Love Is Strong" by The Rolling Stones (1995) and "Suit & Tie" by Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z (2013), he has also won 3 MTV awards for best director. His video for Don Henley's "The End of the Innocence" won Henley the MTV Video Music Award for Best Male Video in 1990. He also earned back-to-back MTV Video Music Awards for Best Direction in 1989 for "Express Yourself" and in 1990 for "Vogue". In 1990, he earned three of the four available nominations in the Best Direction category.

From this you can see that David is a successful director in both film and music videos. However it can be said that he has only gained the chance of being a big time film director and producer is through the music videos of which he directed.

Feedback Sheets

These are the feedback sheets which we got from the class after presenting our pitch, the positive feedback which we got from this was that the idea of our artist and what represents is good as well as her background and why she is the person she is today, however the class felt we should of presented an image of poppy who is our artist to make it more clear.
One negative from the feedback was that people were unclear entirely on the narrative as we did not show a storyboard or animatics which could of helped with the understanding of the narrative.
After the pitch we realised that we could of presented our mood board as well as the storyboard which would give our audience a better understanding. By getting this feedback it helps us to then go back and develop our pitch to make it even better for the ned time in which we present it.

Final Pitch with Presentation

This is the first group presentation done, including the handouts.

Changing Of Our Artist

After a group discussion we have decided that we are going to change our artist as we have found someone very similar to our artist and who will represent her better as from the photo shoot with Megan we found that she did not quite hit the pop genre connections, where as Poppy ticks all the boxes. Poppy is a year 12 girl who does media as well as photography which will help us in the amount of time we will be able to use her. We believe that the pop feel that Poppy brings to the video is great which is why we had to use her.

2nd Storyboard

Today we completed the first draft of our storyboard by sitting together and playing the song out loud we managed to match a lot of the shots to the lyrics of the song, which links to the use of one of Goodwin's theory's of having lyrics relating to what's happening within the video or visuals. We tried to put some of the lyrics next to the shots to see where each shot would roughly end which will help us when it come to shooting the video.

Creating My Banner

As I started to create my banner I first looked at what images I could put as the background on photoshop, these were the first ones that I found and tried out. But after putting them into photoshop I decided that they did not fit the style I wanted.

I then saw this image and thought it was perfect fit for the style of banner I wanted as it fits the style of our music video and artist.
I then decide an image of a ballerina would also fit the style and convention of our music video and digipak.

I then started to edit the pictures within photoshop and add text to it as well.

After I added the title I then a description of the blog.

This is my finished banner for my blog.

Final Group Presentation Pitch

This is our final group pitch excluding our storyboard, mood board and animatic. However these will be shown when we actually show our pitch.
